We started on Monday w/beet red.

We continue Tuesday w/blushed

Tripping, not having the answer to a question or accidentally sneezing loudly are all reasons that I have blushed or turned beet red. My face turns hot when I blush! Embarrassing moments are a part of life.

Have a good one!

Sincerely,

Katie

Beet red!

Out loud; in your head; under your breath!

My Mother helped me with this–thank you Mom!

Hi! Welcome to English w/Katie. I’m Katie, Katie Adler and it’s Video Monday time to begin our “Five Ways to Say It” week, because there is more then one way to say the same thing.

This week we’re working with beet red! Beet red! Now, this meaning is that you were embarrassed about something that happened.

It can be a good embarrassed or a bad embarrassed. Maybe someone said, “Oh, you look so nice” and your face turned beet red. You’re face turned red, because you were excited, but a little bit…mmm…what? (Mom: embarrassed) Embarrassed!

So, this week we’re working with beet red! Or maybe you did something that you’re ashamed of and your face turned beet red. You lied or something like that.

So, take care and have a good one! Hmm. And, I hope your face doesn’t turn beet red. Unless you get a compliment. That’s a good thing! Take care and have a good one. Bye!

Practice make progress!

Beet red!

Beet red!

Beet red!

Sincerely,

Katie Adler

Katie Adler’s A++ Saturday!

5 ways 1
Hi! Welcome to A++ (Answer plus, plus) Saturday!

A++ is giving extra information in your responses to questions or comments. Here are three examples:

Question/Comment Answer + +
1) How are you? Fine! I went for a walk this morning. I saw so many beautiful flowers!
2) That looks delicious. It is! I got it at the bakery near the station. It was my first time to go to that bakery.
3) Can you play tennis? No. I don’t really like sports. I like reading!

This week’s Five Ways To Say It:

http://englishwithkatie.com/five-ways-to-say-it-video-monday-well/

1) Well…

2) Don’t sweat the small stuff.

3) Barely noticeable.

4) It’s OK. That happens.

5) Mistake? What mistake?

The answers will be in next month’s newsletter!

Where do these go?

There are two sentences that are missing in the dialog. Can you put these two sentences in the right place in the dialog? Have fun!

The choices:

1) Well…. It seems like a small mistake. My Mom used to say “Katie, Chris, Paul whoever you are” and then make her request.

2) It’s OK. That happens. Kathy and Katie are similar. If I work with her a lot and she still calls me Kathy, I would say something.

A++ is giving the initial response and adding detail. Here are some ideas for how to think A++ for some of this week’s sentences. Pay attention to the (+) (+).

The dialogue:

A) Why didn’t you correct her? She called you Kathy. Shouldn’t you tell her.

B) 1 or 2?

A) That’s funny. My Mom did the same. It used to irritate me.

B) 1 or 2?

Five Ways TO Say It Thursday: It’s OK. That happens.

5 ways 2

We started on Monday w/well…..

We continue Tuesday w/It’s OK. That happens

Question mark

It’s OK. That happens! HA! But not to me. HA, again! Oh my goodness. I looked at my blog today and Thursday was missing. I called my friend and asked if he had seen my blog yesterday. He said he had checked it at 11 pm and it wasn’t up yet. I explained the trouble I had with my podcast recording and that at 1:00 am I gave up! He was very kind and told me, “It’s OK. That happens!”

It may happen but I hate that! I am keeping in mind that when I am especially busy I need to make a list. That is a new habit that I am going to start today. Most of you probably are very organized. If you have any tips for me, let me know!

Have a good one!

Sincerely,

Katie

Five Ways To Say It Wednesday: barely noticeable

We started on Monday w/well…..

We continue Tuesday w/barely noticeable

Keep in mind that when speaking a foreign language most mistakes are barely noticeable. WhenNative speakers are more interested in what you have to say than whether or not your grammar is stellar!

I listen to people speak English back home and it seems like grammar has gone out the window.  No one seems to notice. So go out there and find great opportunities for conversations not great opportunities for testing  your English! Your mistakes are barely noticeable!

Have a good one!

Sincerely,

Katie

Five Ways to Say It Tuesday: don’t sweat the small stuff!

If you watch movies, you will hear lots of ways people react to mistakes that don’t seem so important. These reactions are important to learn. They convey a lot of meaning: generosity of spirit! Don’t sweat the small stuff. Dr. Richard Carlson wrote a book with the title Don’t Sweat The Small Stuff. The feeling that there is room for understanding and taking care of the mistake or letting it go. Don’t sweat the small stuff. There is plenty of big stuff to sweat about!

Have a good one!

Well…..

Out loud; in your head; under your breath!

Hi! Welcome to English w/Katie. I’m Katie, Katie Adler and it’s Video Monday time to begin our “Five Ways to Say It” week. This week we’re working with “Well…..” “Well….

Now, this is if you find a mistake or someone points out a mistake and you think it’s small. There’s a mistake. There’s a mistake. There’s a mistake. Well…… That means don’t worry. Like today. I don’t have the cable for my microphone. Well…… Take care and have a good one! Bye!

Example:

Me: Oh, after  “… our Five Ways to Say It Week” I forgot to say “Because there is more than one way to say the same thing!”

You: Well….

Practice make progress!

Well….

Well….

Well….

Sincerely,

Katie Adler
