Welcome to Video Monday!

Welcome to Video Monday!

Out loud; in your head; under your breath!  Practice makes progress!

I’m trying to be discreet.

I’m trying to be discreet.

I’m trying to be discreet.

“I’m trying to be discreet.” Sometimes you want to hide what you are doing. So you may secretly or quietly use your tablet or make a call or write something down. You might discreetly give food to cats in your neighborhood. In this video. I am pretending that I am taking notes from the internet. I don’t want to call attention to myself. I’m trying to be discreet.

I’m trying to be discreet.

I’m trying to be discreet.

I’m trying to be discreet.

Have a good one!

Sincerely,

Katie

Hi! Welcome to A++ (Answer plus, plus) Saturday!

A++ is giving extra information in your responses to questions or comments. Here are three examples:

Question/Comment

Answer

+

+

1) How are you?

Fine!

I went for a walk this morning.

I saw so many beautiful flowers!

2) That looks delicious.

It is!

I got it at the bakery near the station.

It was my first time to go to that bakery.

3) Can you play tennis?

No. I don’t really like sports.

I like reading!

Examples from this week are:

The story is gripping.

I’m caught up in it.

I’m absorbed in it.

I’m wrapped up in it.

The story is gripping.

A++ is giving the basic information and adding detail. Here are some ideas for how to think A++ for some of this week’s sentences. Pay attention the (+) (+).

A) Well, what’s the latest? (+) Have they found the plane yet? (+) This story is so gripping.

B) I’m caught up in it too. (+) One story I read talked about flammable cargo. (+) The plane was carrying 440 pounds of lithium ion batteries.

A) Flammable? (+) That’s not good. (+) That seems strange.

B) I’ll show you the article. (+) I don’t remember the details. (+) It sounded possible.

A) OK, thanks! (+) The first thing in the morning I check to see what is happening. (+) I’m so absorbed in it I feel like I don’t check anything else!

B) You, me and the rest of the world are wrapped up in it. (+) It’s very mysterious. (+)My thoughts are with everyone involved.

A) Mine too. (+) It can’t be easy. (+) Hey, show me the story you mentioned.

Five Ways To Say It Friday: I’m Wrapped Up In It

WRAPPED UP IN ROCKABILLY
(Johnny Meeks)
THE BLUE CAPS (Magnum Force, 1982)

All the kids now days like to hear me perform
Rock and roll music like before they were born
And I think it’s great that they dig those sounds
That rockabilly music that we laid down
Just the other night down in New Orleans
I saw a little chick, a real teenage queen
Rockin’ and a-boppin’, a cute little filly
And man how she loved that rockabilly
I asked her would she like to hear some different sounds
The next time we play here in your hometown
She looked at me and said don’t be silly
I’m really diggin’ this rockabilly, go!

So I took her advice and to this very day
If you ever come around and hear me play
Don’t think I’m daffy and don’t think I’m silly
I’m just all wrapped up in this rockabilly, well go!
Oh, I could just play it forever I think I will!

Go, cats, go
Go, cats, go
Go, cats, go
Go, cats, go

Powerful Poem! Do you get caught up in the drama of everyday life? Do you wear a fake smile or take action you would rather not take? There can be a lot of drama in everyday life: rushing here, rushing there; doing this and doing that. In order to get along we sometimes have to hide our true feelings. Getting caught up in it can be exhausting!

Have a good one!

Katie

When the Harry Potter series started I told everyone It’s riveting.” I had a very difficult time waiting for the next book to come out.

Then, the movies started. I was riveted by them too. I couldn’t wait for the next one. Each one gripped me more than the last one.

A) How do you like the two books you got on being a good communicator? When do you find time to read? You’re always on your computer.

B) They’re good. I’ve just started them. One stresses the importance of connecting and the stresses how to be articulate on all levels.

A) You mean like how you sound and what you say. I’d like to be an eloquent speaker. I think I sound too high pitched and airy.

B) Really? Did someone tell you that? I think you sound fine.

A) No one told me that. I’ve recorded myself speaking and heard it. I’ve changed it a bit, but a book would help.

B) I want to express myself well. I want to know how much information is enough to give. I want to sound confident and relaxed.
